AIR - Strathmore's Artist in Residence Series

Created to foster the point of transition from amateur to professional musician, the Artists in Residence (AIR) program provides performance, composition, teaching, and networking opportunities for upcoming musicians. Through a competitive selection process, six musicians/singers/songwriters take up one-month residencies at Strathmore. Each AIR artist benefits greatly from the professional mentoring and support provided by participating musicians and the career development workshops offered.

Castleton Festival: June 28-July 20, 2014

Artistic directors Maestro Lorin Maazel and Dietlinde Turban Maazel hold the sixth season of the Castleton Festival in their state-of-the-art performance venues set in the rolling meadows of Castleton Farms in scenic Rappahannock County, Virginia. This season's program will showcase Castleton's rising stars working alongside world renowned artists in new productions of Don Giovanni and Madama Butterfly, three symphonic concerts, theatrical readings, chamber music, singing recitals, bluegrass, fireworks, and more.

The Art League's 60th Anniversary Celebration

In 2014, The Art League will celebrate 60 years of bringing the arts to the community through their school, gallery, store, and outreach programs. Through several moves, the founding of the Torpedo Factory, and a huge expansion in the number of people they serve, The Art League remains dedicated to nurturing the artist and enriching the community.The kickoff 60th Anniversary event will be Thursday, January 9 in the Gallery. A special community art project will be unveiled to commemorate the occasion.Throughout the year, The Art League Gallery will revisit and reflect upon the major art movements from the last six decades.... The Jazz Samba Project at Strathmore

Strathmore‚Äôs Jazz Samba Project celebrates Brazilian musical influence around an explosive moment in jazz and pop history: the release of the landmark 1962 Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd album, recorded in Washington, D.C. at the All Souls Unitarian Church. Jazz Samba, the first major bossa nova album on the American jazz scene, sold half a million copies in 18 months and became the only jazz album ever to hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart, and it remained on the charts for 70 weeks.
