DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities

Since 1968, the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) has developed and promoted local artists and organizations by providing grants, programs and education activities that encourage diverse artistic expression and learning opportunities for all District of Columbia residents and visitors to experience the rich culture of our city. DCCAH promotes excellence in the arts by supporting artists, initiating programs, activities, and policies that inspire, nurture, and reflect the multi-ethnic character and cultural diversity of the District. Governed by Mayoral appointed volunteers who are approved by the City Council, DCCAH provides financial support and conducts programming in three primary areas:
  • DC Creates Public Art provides high quality art installations and administrative support services to enhance our public visual environment and the public.
  • Arts Learning and Outreach provides grants, educational activities and outreach services for youth, young adults and the general public fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and enhancing one's overall quality of life.
  • Arts Building Communities (Grants and Programs) provides grants, performances, and exhibitions for individual artists, arts organizations, and community groups to express, experience, and access the rich cultural diversity of the District.
