Aftab names the great Sufi poets Rumi and Abida Parveen as key influences in her tranquil, mesmerizing work. Through her atmospheric vocals and swirling soundscapes, the Pakistan-born artist evokes the same peaceful energy of her mystical heroes. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Aftab is currently based in New York City. NPR named Aftab one of the Top 100 Young Composers of 2012, and she has collaborated with artists such as Meshell Ndegeocello, Esperanza Spalding, and DJ /rupture. Says Aftab of her music, “it’s something new that’s musically and politically resonant for the contemporary moment.”
