The National Ballet of Canada: Forsythe, Kylián and Ratmansky
For the first two evenings of its Kennedy Center engagement, the company performs William Forsythe’s fiercely demanding The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude danced to the final movement of Schubert’s Ninth Symphony and his more subdued Approximate Sonata 2016 set to a minimalist piano score by Thom Willems; Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort, a poetic expression of ecstasy performed to selections from two Mozart piano concertos; and Alexei Ratmansky’s Piano Concerto #1, an homage to composer Shostakovich’s life and his transcendent spirit of creation.
