Inaugural Dance Place Artist In Residence SOLE Defined works at the intersection of music, movement, and imagination, using percussive dance to entertain the masses, educate communities, and empower youth. Turning their bodies into human drums, SOLE Defined synthesizes and translates global rhythms through tap dance and body percussion, exposing new generations to this powerfully expressive art form. In the premiere of Zaz, the electric performers of SOLE Defined embark on a spiritual journey exploring the events of Hurricane Katrina from a small speakeasy in New Orleans. Comprised of intimate, first-person testimonies, this dance performance uses storytelling, digital projection, song, and brass music in an evening-length adventure taking the audience on a high-energy immersive roller coaster.
