Presented in collaboration with the March on Washington Film Festival, this two-woman performance illuminates the lives of Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price while recounting the barriers they broke as African American opera singers. Directed and created by playwright and author Tom Minter, their most memorable songs are captured in a moving concert that is not to be missed. The Washington National Opera commissioned the work from Minter in 2017. This program is part of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative, “Because of Her Story,” and coincides with the Portrait Gallery’s exhibition “One Life: Marian Anderson.”
