Wed Dec 18, 8am–6pm
Presented by: Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

Official website

This symposium will consider the Smithsonian Institution as a microcosm for understanding larger societal trends of the last 150 years in the United States. Through this lens, we will examine the intersections between national and institutional histories, as we inherit them today. This thematic focus is an opportunity to reflect on how the Smithsonian itself is implicated in the issues that the American Women’s History Initiative seeks to address, and consider how the particular history of women connects to experiences far beyond our walls.
