Perfect Octave: Tracing Italian Influence with Monteverdi, Bach and Vivaldi
This season closer centers around the first and second of Vivaldi’s timeless concerti, “Spring” and “Summer,” whose evocative, descriptive sounds have captivated four-hundred years of listeners. Bach’s fifth Brandenburg concerto, requiring virtuosity from all principal players, shares the remainder of the program with selected arias and madrigals by Monteverdi, showing the influence of vocal music on Vivaldi’s writing.
Each season in Perfect Octave, Welch will unpack a musical genre or piece through a lecture and a live performance, helping audiences to see music through its historical and social context and experience it with a deeper understanding.
