In June 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment, barring voting discrimination based on a person’s sex. The suffragists, however, had to delay their celebrations. It was not until August 18, 1920, that three-fourths of the states approved this Constitutional change. Raise a glass to those who fought for the right to vote at a special women’s history tea and tour. Tea and light fare will be served in the elegant Dower House. Then, hear the stories of the women at Tudor Place in a 30-minute house tour about the wider outcomes and shortcomings of the 19th Amendment.
