The course focuses on the achievements of Italian Renaissance in Venice, a thriving city of splendors built on water. This is the city where colors became more important than lines, a sensual genre of a female nude was developed, and atmospheric landscape was introduced into paintings. The Venetian Republic claims some of the most important artists of the time as its own such as Giorgione, Titian, and Tintoretto, among others.
