Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW)
Founded in 1972, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) provides opportunities in the visual and performing arts for more than 9000 students and patrons of all ages and abilities each year. Activities include classes, camps, performances, space rental, exhibition, residencies, and workshops. CHAW promotes excellence in and uplifts the arts, encourages coalition building and partnerships, supports local artists, facilitates arts-driven community networks, and stimulates civil discourse. CHAW’s mission of “building community through the arts” is rooted in the belief that the goals of art-making and community-building are synergistic and that diversity is what feeds that synergy. Our robust tuition assistance enables us to take direct action toward bridging our community’s income gap by providing a space where people from different racial, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds can learn and create together.
